Florence Stewart

Having founded Tri Delta, Sarah and Eleanor set out to find new members. The first to join was Florence Stewart, also of the class of 1889. Sarah and Eleanor considered Florence a founder of the organization, since she was a member of the same graduating class.

Florence, who had been a friend of Eleanor's in high school, eagerly accepted the invitation to join Tri Delta. She was from Medway, Massachusetts, where she had graduated from Medway High School on July 5, 1885. Stewart was salutatorian of her class; Eleanor Dorcas Pond was the valedictorian.

Florence served as grand secretary of Tri Delta from 1889 to 1893. After graduating, she became a teacher of Greek and Latin in Whitinsville, Massachusetts. Following advice from a brother, she invested in Bell Telephone Company when it was a new endeavor, which became quite successful. Toward the end of her life, Florence suffered a prolonged illness and died on December 19, 1932.
